Needle Exchange
BY: Fritz Beer (Copyright 2001)

Back to the list of releases.

WRITER'S COMMENTS: A protest song espousing the benefits of the Needle Exchange program. I don't know why people are against providing junkies with clean needles until they get straight. I'm not a big time activist because, well, it's so easy to despise the treatment of calves and love the taste of veal but the needle exchange seems so simple. All it does is save lives until someone, hopefully, recovers. On a recording note, listen carfeully. This song is pretty unPunchy, at least for the 'Just My Type' CD. The producer built about 5 drum loops for this song, and it just pounds along. It almost didn't make the CD because, really, it doesn't fit. But I absolutely love the wickedness of it all, so there it is, amongst all the G C D songs..

Dear you should button up
the weather's getting rough
and people aren't that kind

The fear that you might fall apart,
come unglued before you start
it happens all the time

The place where love lies down to sleep,
never lays down next to me
I'm missing you so much

The fear that no one really cares,
if you disappear
you don't count enough

There's a fortune to be made on their misfortune
There's a fortune to be made on someone else's name
Is tomorrow's obligation that important?
There's a fortune to be made at the needle exchange

Please someone get a net,
put a bullet in my head
I should leave this town

The fear that you might sober up
and find out you're the one

the one who kept you down

Dear you should button up
the weather's getting rough
and people aren't that kind
Scared HIV aware,
bleach them down and share
Stick it in your hide
The fear that you might fall apart,
come unglued before you start
it happens all the time
